Warm Springs, Oregon

Warm Springs Program Background

Many horses on the Warm Springs Reservation face ongoing challenges including overpopulation and limited access to veterinary care. The Warm Springs program was developed to address these challenges while working in alignment with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Department of Range and Agriculture. Through strong community partnership, hands-on veterinary services and training opportunities for students, the program helps reduce animal suffering, and build a healthier future for both horses and the community.

Program Start Year: 2025

Our Work

Multiple times per year, IVO brings veterinary teams to the Warm Springs Reservation to provide student seminars, range horse castration clinics, and community wellness services. In 2025, these efforts served 77 horses and trained 36 veterinary students from Oregon State University and UC Davis. The program focuses on preventive care for horses, provides guidance for owners and strengthens the local community’s ability to manage herd health in a sustainable and humane way.

Our Partners

The Warm Springs Horse Herd Health Program was created to improve the health & welfare of horses on the Warm Springs Reservation by providing accessible and affordable veterinary care, including humane castration and wellness services. Since its launch, IVO, in partnership with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs - Department of Range and Agriculture (CTWS-DRA) and the Oregon State University Student Chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (OSU SCAAEP), works closely with the community to provide vaccinations, dental care, parasite management and practical guidance for horse owners.
